Title

Kitaev magnets as a Majorana platform

Abstract

The Kitaev model offers a canonical example of long-sought quantum spin liquids in more than one dimension. Over the past decade, tremendous efforts have been devoted to realizing this model in materials and identifying fractional Majorana excitations. In this colloquium, after a brief review of the fundamentals and current understanding of the Kitaev spin liquids, we will introduce recent progress in the exploration of the Kitaev magnets. In addition, we will present recent proposals for the measurement and control of the Majorana and anyonic excitations, and discuss future prospects in the physics of the Kitaev spin liquid.
