Title
Development of Nanoplasmonics by Element Substitution Chemistry
Abstract
Chemical conversion of inorganic nanoparticles (NPs) via element substitution reactions, such as ion exchange reactions and galvanic replacement reactions, can overcome the difficulties associated with controlling the size, shape, chemical composition, and crystal structure in conventional syntheses [1-3]. As the first topic, the pseudo-galvanic replacement reactions to give novel alloy NPs is presented [4]. Surprisingly, the spherical alloy NPs with B2 crystal structure exhibited the localized surface plasmon resonance in the visible-to-near infrared (NIR) region, despite containing no group 11 elements (Cu, Ag, Au). The second topic concerns the unique heterostructured NPs with the combination of plasmonic and semiconductor phases synthesized by the ion exchange reactions. It was found that highly efficient NIR light energy conversion in heterostructured NPs was achieved, where the NIR plasmon-induced hot carriers in the plasmonic phase were injected into the conduction or valence band of another semiconductor phase [5-7].
