Title
Catalyst Development toward Effective Use of Less-utilized Carbon Resources
Abstract
As a substitute for fossil resources, the use of alternative carbon source is an emerging challenge of modern chemistry. Here in this presentation, our recent progress in catalyst development for utilization of rather less-utilized carbon resources, e.g. carbon dioxide, biomass, and plastic waste will be presented.
- Using a lactone derived from carbon dioxide and dienes, various polymers were synthesized.1
- Aiming at conversion of lignin degrades to BTX (benzene, toluene, and xylene) and fat waste to diesel oil, we developed catalytic hydrogenolysis of C–O single bonds by homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts.2
- The catalytic hydrogenolysis of C–O and C–N bonds was successfully applied to degradation of thermoset resins.3 Contribution to the chemical recycling of waste polymer is expected.
The catalytic reactions will be discussed in relation to mechanistic studies revealing the contribution of the functional groups, neighboring to the active center, to the catalysis.
