Title

Functional Materials by Molecular Orbital and Spatial Design

Abstract

π-Electronic molecules and polymers that display electronic, optical, and magnetic properties have played critical roles not only in fundamental chemistry but also in diverse research fields. We have reported a variety of functional π-electronic molecules and molecular assemblies, as well as a new synthetic method to create large π-conjugated molecules. This lecture will focus on the development of functional molecules, which have the ability to assemble two-dimensionally with a well-defined structure, and their applications including the fabrication of thin films and self-assembled monolayers, as well as the structuring of polymers to dramatically enhance their physical properties.

This lecture will also focus on the functionalization of nanocarbons, inorganic materials, and conductive polymers by hole doping with a two-coordinated boron cation, along with related research on new boron species promoted in our group.
