Conventional organic synthesis reactions rely on the use of organic solvents to solve the starting materials and catalysts. In contrast, the emerging field of mechanochemical synthesis introduces a revolutionary approach by conducting reactions within a ball mill, requiring only minimal solvent usage.1 The inspiration from our work, centered on the discovery of reversible luminescence mechanochromism in Au(I) complexes, has led to significant advances in our work in the area of mechanochemical synthesis over the past five years. We have demonstrated many significant features of ball mill reactions: the reaction acceleration effect of high concentration, reactions of insoluble substrates that cannot be used under solution conditions, chemo selectivity between solid and liquid substrates, mechanoredox reaction with piezoelectric materials, and activation of the reacting metals by mechanical stimulation.1-11 In this talk, I will discuss the development of mechanochemical organic synthetic reactions in our group.
