Recently, magnetic skyrmion, i.e. swirling spin texture with topologically-protected particle nature, has attracted much attention as the potential information carrier for novel magnetic storage device. In metallic systems, skyrmions can be manipulated by electric current, while it is always accompanied with energy loss by joule heating and the alternative approach is highly demanded.

In this talk, I overview the static and dynamical responses of magnetic skyrmions against various external stimuli in insulating systems, such as electric field, pressure and spin wave. These external fields can significantly affect the stability or dynamics of skyrmions, and may provide energetically more efficient way for skyrmion manipulation. In the latter half of the talk, I will also discuss the development of new materials hosting unique topological spin textures.
