Nanocarbon electronics

講演概要

The limit of miniaturization of Si large-scale integrated circuits (LSIs) is approaching. In fact, the limit may be reached in 5-10 years, when the channel length of transistors becomes about 10 nm or shorter. In this situation, how can nanocarbon materials, such as graphene and carbon nanotubes (CNTs), contribute to future electronics? In this presentation, I will first explain the properties of nanocarbon materials, followed by the descriptions of possible applications, including More Moore, More than Moore, and Beyond CMOS devices. I then explain our studies regarding nanocarbon synthesis and applications. The synthesis of graphene, CNTs, and a graphene-CNT composite structure all over a large wafer is described. The applications include transistors, interconnects, phase-shift keying modulators, and heat-dissipation materials. I also discuss future prospects and challenges of electronics using nanocarbon materials.
