講演概要
Ultracold atoms, which are gaseous atoms cooled to the quantum regime by laser cooling and evaporative cooling, provide an ideal platform to study quantum many-body systems. Especially, such atoms loaded into in periodic potential (optical lattice) created by a laser beam can be used to “simulate” fundamental condensed-matter models, such as the Hubbard model or the Heisenberg spin model. In this talk I explain ultracold atoms in optical lattices as a quantum simulator. Since the optical lattice systems are well separated from uncontrolled environments, they are also suitable systems to reveal non-equilibrium quantum dynamics. I will discuss possibilities of a quantum simulator for non-equilibrium phenomena, such as photo-induced phase transitions.
